Silicones are found in many different hair products, from shampoos and conditioners to styling gels. Silicones are basically a synthetic plastic substance that coats the hair to make it look healthy. They close the cuticles to provide a smooth surface, which then reduces tangles, knots, and breakage. However, a long-term use of silicone-based hair products can end up doing the opposite, thus causing dryness and breakage; and so many people choose silicone-free products for their hair.
